Willem Top was one of our main referential in building of a better safety research system. Inspired by his safety management best practices, presented on his blog we have developed our own functional safety management procedures. Willem Top is also a very kind person- he donated a lot of safety books for our library, books that are now in the University Library in Bucharest.
Willem Top had a distinguished career in the safety domain.
Between 1980 and 1985 he was Managing Director at the International Loss Control Institute in Benelux providing services in the area of safety/loss control management. These services included auditing (using the ISRS) and training as well as advising companies on how to improve their safety and loss control activities. .
Between 1991 and 1999 he was Director of Client Services at DNV (Det Norske Veritas) in Rotterdam.
Now he is a consultant for SSW, the organization that supervises the HSE certification of contractors which is called VCA in Dutch and SCC in English and German.
